Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods and is designated a national historic landmark district. The area has beautiful architecture, and a pretty park around the Washington monument.  Some of you may recognize the church below from the Tom Hanks and Megan Ryan movie, Sleepless in Seattle.

This area is easily accessible via public transport from the Convention Center and the charm city circulator purple line can get you there for free. However, would recommend checking the website for any service delays.

You can climb up the Washington Monument, would recommend checking out the website ahead of time for details regarding reserving a ticket to climb to the top of the monument.

Cathedral.pngYou can also visit the Walters Art Museum and the Enoch Pratt Free library located here.  The Walters Art Museum has great exhibits and admission is free!

They also have year round events featuring special exhibitions and talks. They also have art-focused events for kids, some of which are happening this week in case any of you brought your kids with you to ARVO. Check out the website for details.

If you have more time to explore, the Maryland historic society museum is located nearby. Admission fee is $9 for adults.

The Brewer’s Art offers a large variety of beers, wine, sandwiches and homemade dessert and might be a good place to stop by for a meal after exploring the area.
