Bio

Daniel Rathbun received degrees in neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas (B. S. in 2001 with Michael P. Kilgard) and the University of California, Davis (Ph. D. in 2009 with W. Martin Usrey). He is currently leader of the Experimental Retinal Prosthetics Research Group at the University of Tuebingen, Germany which is funded by the German ministry for education and research. He works in close coordination with Professor Eberhart Zrenner and the company Prof. Zrenner helped found - Retina Implant AG.

Dr. Rathbun’s current research interests include: 1) understanding how visual images are processed in the healthy and degenerating mouse retina; 2) understanding how retinal neurons respond to extracellular electrical stimulation; and 3) applying this knowledge to applications in retinal neuroprostheses. His group’s efforts lie at the intersection of extracellular electrophysiology and systems-level computational modeling.
