Bio

Graduated in Biochemistry in 1992, obtained my Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1998 at the Complutense University (UCM; Madrid, Spain). In 2000 I became Associate Researcher in the Ocular Surface Group at IOBA, where I currently am Principal Investigator.

My main research field is ocular surface inflammation, where I investigate  about characterization of potential biomarkers (disease, activity, therapeutic…), in tears and/or epithelial cells in immune-based chronic inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface, such as Dry Eye syndrome and chronic allergy (atopic keratoconjunctivits and vernal keratoconjunctivits). My research also includes the study of the role of corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells for these diseases. I have authored 41 publications in peer reviewed journals.

Besides my research work, I also participate in postgraduate teaching. I has directed 5 doctoral thesis and I currently co-direct four more in progress.
