His research on the functional genomics of glaucoma and AMD are pioneering in the field that have provided some molecular insights into the disease pathogenesis. These works have been widely recognized through several honors and awards; notable among them being the 'Research Recognition Award' of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), Affiliateship of all the 3 Science Academies of India (INSA, IASc and NASI) and also The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and membership to the prestigious GRC (Guha Research Conference). Professionally, he is on the Strategic Planning, Professional Development and Education and Publication Committees of ARVO (The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology), co-chair of the Associate Advisory Board of the WGA, Vice President of the Asian Eye Genetics Consortium and Executive Council Member of the Indian Society of Human Genetics.
